Adaptation happens between sessions
Training provides a stimulus. Recovery gives you the chance to respond to it. More work is not automatically more useful when fatigue changes your technique, motivation, or normal daily function.
Watch the pattern
One difficult day is not a trend. Repeated drops in performance, disrupted sleep, unusual soreness, or persistent loss of motivation are reasons to review the plan and seek qualified guidance when appropriate.
Keep consistency flexible
An easier session, fewer sets, or an additional rest day can preserve the longer training habit. Recovery is not a reward for finishing the work; it is part of the work.
